Bleeding hemorrhoids are generally painful and can be dangerous. Any open wound on the body is subject to potential infection. Left untreated, any infection can escalate to very serious health conditions which can eventually even cause death.
In addition to being painful and potentially dangerous, bleeding hemorrhoids diminish the quality of life in that they cause periodic or continuous discharge of bodily fluids, namely blood, which will soil clothing.
Bleeding hemorrhoids are thrombosed hemorrhoids that have burst. A hemorrhoid is a blood vessel that has been squeezed or compressed into a bulb filled with blood. When the pressure becomes too intense for the walls of the blood vessel to withstand, the hemorrhoid bursts and thereby becomes a bleeding hemorrhiod which is an open wound.
Though surgery may not be required, bleeding hemorrhoids do require immediate attention and any measures possible should be employed to heal the hemorrhoid as soon as possible.
